BIOGRAPHY:
I was born in Skegness, Lincolnshire, which is on the east coast of the United Kingdom the same year Motown was founded. My DNA is made up of 80% Scottish Celt, 14% Northern European, and 6% Swedish, most probably going back to the days of the Vikings.
I have recently retired from corporate life after spending over 30+ years working for some of the world's most popular brands in various capacities. During this period, I have won several awards for leadership, the most notable being the European CIO of the Year in 2003 in the category "The One to Watch".
During my illustrious career, I have had the privilage to have lived and worked in several countries working on various long and short term assignments and projects, these countries include:
- Beijing, China
- Farmington Hills, Montvale, Portland, United States
- Stuttgart, Berlin, Munich, Germany
- Zurich, Switzerland
- Paris, France
- Rome, Italy
- Madrid, Spain
- Centurion, South Africa
- Prague, Czech Republic
- Singapore
- Dublin, Eire
- Nijmegen, Netherlands
- Various locations in the UK
Now that my corporate days are over, it means that I have more time to spend on the more interesting things in life, which is my passion for photography, and reaquainting myself with my other interests and hobbies.
As part of me taking a step back from corporate life, I have decided to remain in Beijing, China, at least for the time being as there are still many things and places I still have to see, and of course photograph.

Developing:
I have been interested in photography, film making, and the arts ever since that I can remember, and from the 'My Life in Cameras' section, you can see that I have owned a lot of equipment, particularly that from Olympus, or OM-Systems as they are known today. In the past I also developed my own Black & White negatives/prints and Color transparency films in a homemade darkroom in my attic.
Inspirations:
I remember as a kid watching TV commercials featuring David Baily, a famous self-made photographer from the UK who at the time was advertising Olympus camera equipment. The TV commercials I remember were particularly for the Olympus Trip camera that was produced in 1967 and was the first camera for mass consumption. Although I have never owned this camera, at the time it was always on my shopping list, but I was unable to save up enough pocket money to purchase the camera, so I had to stick with my Kodak Instmatic.
David Baily, like Ansel Adams became my photographic idols, who I followed for a long time and still appreciate their work.
Moving Forward:
I am currently based in Beijing, China, where I live alone with my ginger (orange as they call it here) cat named Hamish, this is through choice, and I am very happy and content with my solitude.
I live about 65 km outside of Beijing, in a new apartment complex that is very close to the mountains and the countryside, where on a clear day I am able to see The Great Wall of China from my apartment.
When it comes to my photography, I like to photograph landscapes, people, nature, wildlife, architecture, travel and street. There are so many interesting and varied subjects to photograph here in China, as there are in all parts of the world.
On the video side, in the past I have produced a number of pieces for clients, and I am currently working on creating a personal project to create a 3D Pixar style short movie that I hope to complete by the end of 2025.
Thousands of Years of History, Right on my Doorstep
This is the view of the mountains from my living room and bedroom windows. They both face towards the east, so I can watch the sun and moon rise, and from my office and kitchen windows that face west, I can watch the sun and moon set.
