Woodward Dream Cruise, Detroit
Having worked in the automotive financing business for over 20 years, my interest in motor sports, and having lived in Detroit for 12 years gave me plenty of opportunities to photograph some remarkable automotive events, including:
- Motor racing events such as the Belle Isle Grand Prix including Indy car and Sports car
- NASCAR racing
- The Detroit Auto Show
- Woodward Dream Cruises
One of my favorite events was the Woodward Dream Cruise that was held every August in Detroit on Woodward Avenue. This is a historic event from the Mopar days, where for the weekend you had good old American muscle cars cruising up and down Woodward Avenue from dusk until dawn, the party in the evening.
I actually participated in the cruise several times in my 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL who was named Penelope.
U.S. Muscle Cars Detroit:
Taken with an Olympus E-3 with a combination of lenses, the 11mm-22mm f2.8-3.5 for the wide angle shots, and the 14mm-54mm f2.8-3.5 longer shots.
Motor Sport:
This series of photographs of the Belle Isle Grand Prix in Detrot were taken handheld using a Canon EOS 5D MK III paired with a Sigma 50-500 f4.5-6.3 -tele-zoom lens for the long shots, and a Canon 24mm-105mm f4 zoom lens.
Mercedes-Benz Museum:
Taken with a Canon EOS 7D and an 18mm-250mm f4.5/f5.6 tele-zoom lens.
